There are many opportunities at St. John's for young people to be involved in the life of our community. Here are some of them:
Servers: We have young people as servers at both the 9:15 and 11:00 services. Servers are leaders in the worship service, carrying the cross, helping to prepare for the Eucharist, receiving the offering, and helping in other ways at festival services. Servers are scheduled about once a month.
Readers: Both adults and youth are involved as readers at the 9:15 and 11:00 services. Readers present the two non-Gospel readings for the day, and are scheduled by the rector.
Greeters/Sidespeople: For the last year we have had families acting as greeters and sidespeople at the 9:15 service. This is an excellent opportunity for families to work together welcoming people on their way into church, handing out bulletins and song books, taking up the collection, etc.
Nursery Care: We provide nursery care for children up to 2 years of age at both the 9:15 and 11:00 services. Volunteers watch over infants as they play and sleep, allowing their parents to worship in church."
Church School: Currently we have four church school classes at 9:15 and a one-room class at 11:00. We are always looking for people to team teach, or assist teachers with the classes.
Holy Days: St. John's runs children's programs throughout the year on All Saints' Day, Ash Wednesday, during the March Break, on Ascension Day, and our Vacation Bible School. Young people are integral as helpers and teachers in these programs.
Handbells:St. John's Brass and O'Neill choirs offer volunteer hours for concerts performed at other sites as well as for playing at regular services at St. John's.
Youth Choir:St. John's youth choir, which practices weekly on Tuesdays 4:30-5:30pm, is open to young people between about ages 7 and 15. An ability to read is required, as well as an enthusiasm for music.
